The Challenge Colorful Notion Faced
Colorful Notion serves users and developers of Polkadot / Substrate chains with its multi-chain block explorer Polkaholic.io.
Polkaholic.io indexes Polkadot, Kusama and over 50+ parachains, serving developers with in-depth tools and API and users with easy to use account access.
However, getting the latest full archive node for the latest releases of the newest parachains up and running is time-consuming and challenging. Proper indexing of XCM (Cross-Consensus Messaging) activity for example, requires acquisition of “unsafe” traces which are not available from public endpoints.
Colorful Notion found this process of compiling the latest release laborious, complex and expensive, also disrupting existing workflows, and taking away the core team’s focus from the main product.
How OnFinality Helped Colorful Notion
Colorful Notion learned about Onfinality through the public endpoints accessible on the polkadot.js app, and worked with OnFinality toward cost-saving measures while improving workflow efficiency.
Colorful Notion used OnFinality’s dedicated node service to stand up 20 nodes for a few minutes each hour to index vital information they needed off the blockchain. This helped Colorful Notion drastically reduce costs as compared to setting up and paying to constantly service 20 full time nodes to get the same information.
